Make Learning Serve Your Pursuits

Your friendships, extracurricular activities, and yes even your courses, professors and parents provide learning that serves your pursuits.

Do you aspire to …

Work as an engineer?

  • NOTICE the technology in the novel your professor assigned you to read right now.

  • THINK how the characters view technology differently than you (and you friends) do?

  • INTERACT with others: Imagine a backstory, and either write it yourself or pitch it to an aspiring writer.

Work in politics?

  • NOTICE when that physics professor insists on respecting the data and illustrates the problem using disasters like the Challenger Space Shuttle launch.

  • THINK what you would do in that situation that would have been better

  • INTERACT with others: Engage with friends and your parents (and other people their age) to find out what they think and what other examples they know.

Expand friendships?

  • NOTICE others’ talents, interests, abilities, achievements and areas for improvement

  • THINK who fits into which kind of friendship: 1. work/study together (lots of people), 2. fun together (some people), 3. be with, trust and admire (the few and faithful)

  • INTERACT with 1 person at a time to cultivate the right kind of friendships.

Let’s talk about what you are learning now and how it can help you to pursue your aspirations.
